OBA Chair [Ekaabo Collection]
*One Of A Kind*
OBA means king in the Yoruba language. The design of this armchair was inspired by the Agbada, a traditional flowing garment worn by Yoruba Kings. The OBA chair is upholstered in indigenous Yoruba Aso-oke textile also known as ‘Top Cloth’. This hand loomed fabric has been a part of the Yoruba culture since the 15th century. The Bronze piece that rests at the back bone of the chair, was hand made in Benin, which has a strong bronze casting legacy.
The Oba chair was also designed as a symbol of Lani’s relationship with God. The upholstered interior represents her as a vessel, while the adorned metal armor represents God’s glory, as her backbone, elevator and protector.
